Florentine Mosaics

Florentine mosaics are THE most amazing forms of artistic display that I have come across in my life. This is strictly my personal opinion, but the first time I saw one of these mosaics I was in awe of the obvious time, care, talent and precision that it must have taken to produce.

These mosaics are made by sifting through pieces of stone, glass and gems to find the exact shading they need for a particular part in the mosaic. Then the piece is cut to the specific dimensions and placed where needed. For example, when trying to create a leaf... you first have to find a piece of stone with the correct shading of green, maybe multiple pieces and then cut and place them so you aren't only left with a flat green leaf, but there is shading, dimension and details in the leaf to make it appear realistic. After these mosaics are finished, some have to be looked at very closely to realize that they are in fact made of stone and not painted. Truly amazing to see.
