Sailing around Croatia

Sailing is by far the best way to see the coast of Croatia.  There are a ton of companies that do the gamut of trips, but if you are a backpacker... Sail Croatia or Busabout are a must.  Its like a contiki trip on the water; young travelers (mostly Aussie), reasonably priced, set itinerary and lots of partying.  I chose Busabout for the timing and price, but once on the trip I realized that Sail Croatia is pretty much the same thing.

BUSABOUT TIPS
  1. Packing - Rearrange your backpack before you get on the boat with the items you need at the top! The rooms are really small and its a pain to sift through your all your crap looking for stuff. Everyone on my trip ended up wearing the same clothes because they couldn't be bothered with searching for new ones.
  2. Power cords - Lets be real, we all want our phones and cameras charged 24/7.  And FYI there are a only few outlets and that work when the engine is on.  So bring any portable/external batteries you have for your electronics.
  3. Lost Phones/items - Don't freak out until you've thoroughly checked your bed! Two girls on my trip... well one besides me, lost their phones.  I was positive I drunkenly forgot it at a bar and spent the whole next day devastated.  How am I going to take pictures?  How am I going to share my pictures immediately with the world!?! How am I going to keep up with my friends on social media! Oh the humanity!! That was my day until my roommate happened to lift my mattress and sure enough, there was my phone.  And at the end of the trip, 4 days after another girl lost her phone, she discovered that her mattress had eaten her's as well.  So check under and around your mattress for any lost items.  Only then, if still lost, can you freak out.
  4. DO ALL THE ACTIVITIES - If you have the means, do all the extra activities. And if you can only do one, do the wine tasting and dinner at the farm in Hvar.  It was one of my favorite nights and possibly the best meal I have had ever.  Everything they serve is grown on the farm... everything!
  5. Drink on the boat - Whenever you can, drink on the boat.  Its fun to get to know the other travelers and its incredibly cheap! They do a tally system to keep track of all your booze which seems like it can be dangerous.  But everyone on our trip was pleasantly surprised by their bill at the end.  For 7 days of drinking and 7 nights of happy hours my bill was $75 USD.  The highest bill was twice that.  Not too shabby for 7 days/nights of partying.
